The London Short Film Festival, now in its 10th year, is recognised as the premiere UK showcase for cutting-edge UK independent film.

Renowned for daring cross-arts programming, we showcase the very best of the country’s raw talent. The London Short Film Festival is a Mecca for the UK’s young creative talent and a significant date in the UK film calender.

Every year the Festival’s large and loyal audience flock to screenings and events, and this network has grown steadily over almost a decade.

The Two Short Nights festival based at the Exeter Phoenix – sponsored by Cineon Productions – attracted a wealth of local and international filmmaking talent and screened the best films from this year’s 48 Hour film challeng. Teams were set the challenge to write, edit and shoot their film in just two days using the assignment below. This year’s assignment was theme – Crossing the Line, prop – A Kitchen timer and text – “It’s not easy stepping into someone else’s shoes”.

This years winner was Jon Toomey’s team ’Never Coming Home’ with their elegant  stylish short  ’BALLOONS‘.

Apart from sponsoring the screenings Cineon Productions actively supports all aspects of local film production; hiring kit, recommending crew and providing training on various aspects of the industry. It was a fantastic year for local filmmaking and the increasing level of talent was evident from the start. Beginning with the 48 Hour film challenge and right up to the short film commissioned filmmakers, the dedication and celebration for short film made Two Short Nights 2012 one of the best yet.

The awards were presented by Paul Turner, Director of Community and Sustainable Business at Lloyds Banking Group. Despite ongoing turbulent times, Devon businesses continue to demonstrate innovative and pioneering environmental best practice reflected in this year’s winners and finalists.

Andy Vickery, Chairman of DEBI said “This year’s awards clearly demonstrate that in tough economic conditions focus on environmental best practice can lead to cost effectiveness. The judging panel for the DEBI awards this year was particularly impressed by the level of innovation demonstrated. This year’s winners are investing and reaping the benefits of environmentally friendly energy as well as creating pioneering technology to respond to a market requirement to reduce costs. We are delighted that DEBI can recognise these efforts at our annual awards event.”

Cineon’s short film of  the awards ceremony and interviews with key members will be available on their official site later this month.

The nominated volunteers work with local groups to help and support those less fortunate than themselves.

Cineon Productions created two short films especially for the Foundation’s awards. the two films focused on the work of Plymouth based ‘Diggin It’ and their supporters HSBC and a study on the work of the Devon ‘Street Pastors’ featuring interviews shot in Exeter and verite sequences filmed ‘out on the street’ with the Pastors  in Torquay.

Exeter Phoenix and Cineon Productions challenge film makers to create, shoot and edit a film in the space of just 48 hours. Entrants will have the chance for their work to be screened at the opening night of Two Short Nights Film Festival and voted by the audience for the Best Film Award. Two Short Nights Film Festival, now in its 11th Year, brings you some of the most extraordinary and exciting short films from the UK and the rest of the world.

This year’s festival will include the International Open Screenings, a great selection of workshops and seminars and the ever so popular 48 Hour Film Challenge returns to put your filmmaking skills to the ultimate test.

2012 festival highlights also include the premiere of this year’s six Short Film Commissions, which will take place on Fri 30 Nov at 9pm.

The DCF is an independent charity that supports community causes across Devon.

A multi – medal winning fighter in both Heavyweight and Open weight, Carl’s popular series of  self – defence  training DVD’s were edited, graded and mastered by Cineon Productions and are featured and sold  internationally at tournaments and demonstrations around the world.

Phone Apps have often flirted with narrative interaction but the results have often been a little lacklustre, not fully embracing the medias full capabilities. The – as yet untitled – flash game project aims to breathe a little life into the field and explore its story telling possibilities.

Depending on the prototypes success, plans have already been made to develop a series of interactive portmanteau chillers with award winning Devon house of horror ‘Carrion Films‘.

Somerset College of Arts and Technology invited us again to film their Summer Fashion show in London’s Brick Lane.  We met all the students this year as we were asked to interview them to find out about their feelings and aspirations.  One inspirational student who was also being interviewed for the BBC’s “See Hear” programme was Nipa Yamjamnan.  Nipa, who is profoundly deaf, came to the UK from Thailand 8 years ago as she had won a scholarship from the Thai government to study in the UK.  Not only did she have to learn English when she arrived but she also learnt sign language at Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.  Find out more about her journey into fashion design at http://www.somerset.ac.uk/news/deaf-student-nipa-at-top-london-catwalk-show.html
